Discussion: How Do You Keep Track of Series?

I am (as many of you are) a bookish nerd.  My family cannot comprehend the amount of time I spend reading and blogging or the amount of money I spend in books (my poor hubby keeps trying to figure out where to put all said books).  I try to be as organized as possible, but with the many amazing series making a debut all the time I am at a loss on how to keep track of them anymore.

This is what I used to do: (I know you’ll be laughing by the end of this sentence) I have a little notebook that I carry with me everywhere with a list of all the series I’m reading,  I would add the books in the series as I learned about them and the expected publication date by month and year.  That way I would know at a glance, for example, that A Need so Beautiful #2 will be published in June of this year.

Needless to say, this is hard to keep up!  In Goodreads I can keep a list of my “wishlist” or to-be-read books, but I want to know more than that.  How do you keep organized?  Do you use Excel, a database, a Calendar, another website?

Feature and Follow Friday

Feature and Follow Friday is an awesome blog-hop hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read

This week's features are @ Mercurial Musings and Laura Ashlee @ Owl Tell You About It and this week we have an activity:

What book would you love to see made into a movie or television show and do you have actors/actresses in mind to play the main characters?

This is a really hard question as I have mixed feelings about it. When I read a book I imagine the setting and the characters in my own particular way and sometimes it is a great disappointment when I see a movie about them.

I love the Harry Potter movies because I feel they are pretty close to the books, but other movies, such as Percy Jackson was a big disappointment for me (I’m not even mentioning Twilight!).  Now, I love movies and I’m very excited about Hunger Games and I probably own every copy of a Pride and Prejudice movie ever made!

Sorry about the rambling, now to answer the question I would love see a movie based on Graceling by Kristin Cashore, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, the Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa (although I’m sure they’ll never get Ash right!), The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder, Blood Red Road by Moira Young, Die for Me by Amy Plum , Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, Divergent by Veronica Roth… I can really keep going, but I’ll refrain myself!

So you see, that even at the risk of becoming upset and disappointed I still will see movies based on books!

How about you?  What movies would you love to see make into a movie or a TV show?

Waiting on Wednesday: Disenchanted by Sherry Soule

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
in which we have the opportunity to let others know about books that we are eagerly waiting for.

Title: Disenchanted by Sherry Soule
Published by: Moonlight Publishing
Release date: July 2012

As an intelligent and sassy New Yorker, Skylar Thornton doesn’t believe in the supernatural until she moves into Summerwind Mansion and begins having nightmares about a young woman murdered in the house. She suspects there’s something strange about this place and it’s not just the bad dreams.
Determined to unlock secrets that have remained hidden for centuries, Skylar is plunged into an otherworldly mystery that not even she can explain away. Not to mention, her uncontrollable attraction to the former owner, Dorian Knight. After meeting Dorian, all of her beliefs are tested. He seems so familiar, and as close to Mr. Darcy as she’ll ever get—but Jane Austen never wrote a hero like him—someone who both excites and frightens her.

As the history of the Knight family begins to unravel, tensions heighten and old resentments turn deadly. Even though Dorian warns her about a terrible curse—she doesn’t know who or what to believe.

Now Skylar starts to wonder which she would rather hold onto—her sanity…or her life
.

Why I want to read it: First, I love the cover.  I like the contrast of the white and red, the font and the sense of abandon.  Second, the synopsis sounds like an interesting paranormal romance.  Third, the male character's name is Dorian Knight, how cool is that?  AND comparing him with Mr. Darcy, well you had me at "hello".  Lastly, there is no mention of a love triangle!

What are you waiting for this fine Wednesday?

Top Ten Books I'd Give a Theme Song To

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish

I think this is the harder Top Ten I've had to do!  I am terrible at this and I don't think in terms of songs when I'm reading.  Also, it would have been a breeze if I could use songs in Spanish instead :)  Needless to say I couldn't think of ten songs.

1.  The Immortal by Evanescence for The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - Both the book and the song are just so sad, but great!

2.  No One by Alicia Keys for Twilight by Stephenie Meyer - I just imagine Edward and Bella singing this together (not really, I don't think they're the singing type).

3. No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown for Breathe by Abbi Glines - If you have read this super romantic book you'd know what I'm talking about.

4. Hero by Enrique Iglesias for Die for me by Amy Plum - I think that is what something that Vincent would say!

5.  Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton for The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson - Another sad song that can apply to any book that deals with grieving.

6. Unbreake My Heart by Toni Braxton for New Moon by Stephenie Meyer - I really think the song in the movie was perfect, but this is another great "break-up song".

Well, that's all I could come up with!  I'm sure you all did much better than me :)

What is in your Top Ten?

Review: Goddess Interrupted by Aimée Carter (Goddess Test #2)

TitleGoddess Interrupted by Aimée Carter
Published: March 27th 2012 by HarlequinTeen
Source: ARC provided by publisher for honest review (NetGalley)
Challenge(s):  2012 eBook
Grade rate: C

Kate Winters has won immortality.

But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.

Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.

As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.

Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

My Review

It is hard for me to write this review because I had the expectation that I would love the sequel to The Goddess Test (see my review here) and I am sorry to say that it was not the great read I was hoping for.

I really liked Kate in the previous book, but in its sequel she turned into a very insecure person, and that that is not a character trait that I admire.  If there is something that I cannot abide is whining.  I discourage it in my children and they know that they will not get anything from me by using that tactic.  I understand that Kate is really young, especially compared to Greek gods, but still, it seems like 50% of the book was spent on reading about Kate’s insecurities, self-doubt, and lack of trust in Henry.  It just drove me crazy.  Sorry!  I had to get that out of my chest.

I feel like Kate gave up really quickly.  Henry is, as in the previous book, very mysterious.  It’s not easy for him to show or talk about feelings and we have to understand that all the gods (the only “people” that Kate hangs with) have lived for eons.  It is really hard to change overnight and he had other things in his mind as well.  Ava and James appear more in this book and we get to know them a little better (even if what we learn is not all good).  We also meet Persephone and although she is beautiful, she is not a very nice person.

The plot was weak and relied heavily on Kate’s inner conflict, instead of the danger they were all in.  The writing was easy to read and flowed a little slow.  What on earth happened with at the end?  It felt rushed, not very believable and a total cliffhanger (you guys know I don’t like those, right?)

I will still read The Goddess Inheritance, the third installment in the series due to be published in October of this year.

About the cover:  The cover is beautiful, the flowing attire, the long hair all make allusion to the Greek theme, as well as the font.
