This week's feature is from Bonnie at 'Hands and Home' and the question is:
Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).
I have two books to share with you:
What is your choice of book?
One of the first books that I read and remember loving was ‘Little Women’ by Louisa May Alcott (I was probably 10 years old.) My mom bought it for me on the recommendation of a friend and I quickly read it and continued to finish the series. I have been reading ever since!
I know there are a lot of divided opinions about ‘Twilight’, but my second choice it’s indeed the ‘Twilight Saga’ by Stephenie Meyer. Please allow me to elaborate. In 2009 my husband left for a year tour to Iraq. This was a very difficult time for our family, not did I found myself to be a single parent of three boys, but my hubby, best friend, and partner in life was going to a war zone. About a month after he left my mom, sister and cousin came to visit and my sister bought the ‘Twilight’ movie and raved about the books. Before she left, she gave me the first book as a gift. I devoured these books in no time at all AND in doing so discovered Goodreads, book blogs, author websites and a whole new world opened up for me. While my husband was away I probably read more than a 100 books (thank you mom for coming to stay with us for most of that year!)
I don't like twilight but I do like the positive impact it's had on the lives of a lot of people. It's great this series helped you get through such a difficult time

Hippies, Beauty, and Books. Oh My!
I've seen Twilight a couple of other times today and I totally understand why! I was a total readaholic (more than usual) with that series! It was just so good! I think the reason people hate it is because of the movies, not the books. Great story about it too! I'm glad it opened you up to the whole wide world of books!

New follower! Great choices. Sometimes the books that make the biggest impact in our lives aren't the ones that everyone thinks are the best books or great literature. Sometimes books impact our lives because of the timing when they came to us and the events surrounding reading them. I know the book I chose will never be heralded as great literature, but it will always have a special place in my heart--it is a comfort read for me and probably always will be.
ReplyDeleteNew Follower! Great choices! Sometimes the books that have the greatest impact on our lives are not the ones that everyone heralds as great literature. Sometimes they are the books that came to us at the moment we needed them the most. I know the book I chose will never be in that "great literature" category, but I love it anyway and it is still a book I turn to when I need a comfort read.
ReplyDeleteIf you got two comments from me I apologize--my computer froze up while I was trying to post the first one. Don't you just love technology! :)

Hopping through. Yay for Twilight. It was also a welcome escape for me when I first read it - since I'd had some crazy issues with my job that year.

I absolutely loved Little Women! I lost count of how many times I read that book, but I love the story and the messages it contains. And Twilight was part of my answer as well.
ReplyDeleteNew follower here :) Hope you have a great weekend!

I love Little Women, too. I'm mostly a Jo, but there is a little more Amy in me than I would like.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a sweet story behind your love of Twilight. I hope your husband is safe now.
