Best Book Boyfriends of 2013

Top 10 of 2013 is hosted by a group of fabulous bloggers and you can find more information here

Arianne’s List

There are so many things I could say about the beautiful boys on this list! But I think I may lose all coherency if I do, so I'll just let them speak for themselves using some of my favourite quotes from their books :)

1. Isaiah from Crash Into You by Katie McGarry

“I can’t give you the world, Rachel, but I’ll give you all I got.”

2. Hale from Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter

“I'm too close.”
“You don't get it, do you? Being close is good. Caring is good. I love that you're emotional and passionate and can't turn these things off.”
“It makes me a bad thief.”
“It makes you a good person.”

3. Graham from This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

“He hadn't realized how much it could mean, having someone to talk to like that; he hadn't realized that it could be a kind of lifeline, and that without it, there would be nobody to save you if you started to drown.”

4. Warden from The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

“I do not know what I can do for this world, but I will not let any harm come to you.”

5. Emilio from The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler

“Don't settle, okay? Not for anything. I mean it. You only get this one chance at life, far as I know. Take it. Even if its not with me.”

6. Day from Prodigy by Marie Lu

“You know, sometimes I wonder what things would be like if I just ... met you one day. Like normal people do. If I just walked by you on some street one sunny morning and thought you were cute, stopped, shook your hand, and said, "Hi, I'm Daniel.”

7. Ezra from The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider

“She tasted like buried treasure and swing sets and coffee. She tasted the way fireworks felt, like something you could get close to but never really have just for yourself.”

8. Jesse from Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

“You like me, Josie Moraine. You just don't know it yet.”

9. Lucas from Goddess by Josephine Angelini

"I never expected you to think I was perfect. I know I'm not."
"You are to me."
"That's all I care about," Lucas said quietly. "Not-my-cousin Helen.”

10. Four from Allegiant by Veronica Roth
"I love you, too," he says. "I'll see you soon.”

Liza’s List

Arianne, I hope you don’t mind that I followed your lead and used quotes to let these awesome YA Book Boyfriends talk for themselves!

1.  Dante from The Collector / The Liberator by Victoria Scott

“I will protect this girls with everything I have, because if something happens to her, I will lose myself. I will cease to exist.
And I will take everyone with me.”

2. Hector from The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson

“I love you, too," he whispers in my ear. "Wholly. Madly."
"Does that mean you'll marry me?"
"I suppose.”

3.  Isaiah from Crash into You by Katie McGarry

“I love you, Rachel. So this will work. No matter what or who stands in our way.”

4.  Josh from The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

“I don't know how to say it - after all this time, I'm not even sure that I can - but I have to break her last rule, because if she knows nothing else, I need her to know this one thing.
'I love you, Sunshine,' I tell her, before I lose my nerve. 'And I don't give a shit whether you want me to or not.”

5.  Willem from Just One Year by Gayle Forman

“By that point, it’ll have been more than year since I met Lulu. Any sane person would say it’s too late. It already felt too late that first day, when I woke up in the hospital.
But even so, I’ve kept looking.
I’m still looking.”

6.  Perry from Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

“It didn't matter if Aria was hundreds of miles away, or whether she'd hurt him, or said goodbye, or anything else. Nothing would change the way he felt. The moment Aria had taken his hand on the roof at Marron's, she'd changed everything. No matter what happened, she'd always be the one.”

7.  Kaidan from Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

“I was more myself with you during those three days than I’ve ever been with anyone in my life. It’d be easier if I could be fake with you, but you bring out everything in me, little Ann. All of it.”

8.  Cam from Wait for You by J. Lynn

“I want to be here with you, Avery. You don't have to worry about impressing me or wowing me. You've already done that.”

9.  Henry from The Goddess Inheritance by Aimée Carter

“I see the sunrise now," he said. "Because of you, the days have color. Eternity has meaning once more. You found every broken piece of me and put me back together, even though I hurt you too many times for me to deserve it. You are the glue that holds me together. If I lose you, it will be the end of me. The end of everything good in this world.”

10.  Vincent from If I Should Die by Amy Plum

“Whatever happens, remember that I will love you forever,” he says. “Even if my spirit is dispersed and my consciousness released to the universe... whatever is left of me will never stop loving you.”

What do you think about our choices?  Do you have some of the same book boy friends?  Be warned that we will fight for some of these!

Review: Trust in Me by J. Lynn (Wait for Me #1.5)

Title: Trust in Me by J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout)
Published: October 22nd, 2013 by William Morrow Impulse
Source: Purchased for Kindle
Format: eBook
Genre: Contemporary romance
Age group: New adult
Grade rate: A+

Cameron Hamilton is used to getting what he wants, especially when it comes to women. But when Avery Morgansten comes crashing into his life – literally – he finally meets the one person who can resist his soulful baby blues. But Cam’s not ready to give up. He can’t get the feisty and intriguing girl out of his head. Avery has secrets, secrets that keep her from admitting the feelings Cam knows she has for him. Will persistence (and some delicious homemade cookies) help him break down her barriers and gain her trust? Or will he be shut out of Avery's life, losing his first real shot at the kind of love that lasts forever?

My Review

It is no secret that I loved Wait for Me, thus I couldn’t wait to read the same story from Cam’s point of view. I couldn’t imagine this story getting any better, but it did!

Since I wrote a full review for Wait for Me, I won’t go into the same details, but rather, let me tell you what I loved about Trust in MeCam’s mind is a much comfortable place to be.  Don’t get me wrong, I understand Avery’s angst, self-doubt, and mistrust, but by contrast, Cam is just the opposite (opposites attract, right).  While reading the first book and thought that Cam must have the patience of a saint, and indeed he does!  Cam’s a guy.  What do I mean by that?  Well, he has a one-track mind (you get my meaning).

In Trust in Me we get to see the whole study (minus Avery’s angst as I mentioned before), plus what goes on with Cam when the two are not together.  It also gives the reader a chance to get better acquainted with Cam’s friends, Oliver and Jase, as well as with Cam’s family, especially his sister.  I also like that he’s not afraid to talk about feelings and confronts his rage to try to keep it under control.

As always, the fabulous Jennifer Armentrout cannot help but to write an amazing story.  I love her writing style, it’s straightforward and beautiful at the same time.  I really hope you give this story a try because it’s wonderful!

Do your read new adult? Why or why not? Are you a fan or Armentrout? Have you read either of these books?

And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…
Why I want to read it: Oh my goodness!  I love Wait for You, the first book in the series and I'm finishing Trust in Me (#1.5) and as you might imagine, it's to die for.  I love Jennifer Armentrot as a writer and I had the good fortune of meeting her in a few book events and she is a wonderful person as well.  I can't wait for Jace and Teresa's story!

What are you waiting for this week?

Review: Wait for You by J. Lynn (Wait for You #1)

Title: Wait for You by J. Lynn
Published: February 26th, 2013
Source: Purchased
Format: eBook
Group age: New adult /adult
Genre: Contemporary romance
Challenge(s):
Grade rate: A

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

My Review

WOW!  In a sea of new adult novels that are sprouting everywhere, Wait for You is like a breath of fresh air.  I just loved this one so very much!

My only experience with Jennifer Armentrout’s writing is Obsidian, which I adored as well.  It seems to me that she is one of the best authors at creating characters that come alive within the story.

Avery is a very complicated character.  There is a traumatic and painful event in her life that changed, not only the way she felt about herself, but her relationship with her parents and with her peers.  Avery is afraid of letting everyone in, afraid of pain and rejection, so much fear.  She needed help that was denied to her and I’m glad that she was able to rise above it all.

I love Cameron with a passion! He is one of the best male characters EVER.  He is so sweet, considerate, romantic, gorgeous, not to mention that he has the patience of a saint.  Even though he got into some trouble, he tried really hard to overcome all obstacles and I think that scare put things into perspective for him.

At the end, Cam was Avery’s salvation, the lifeline she needed to get her head above water and be willing to fight for something (or someone in this case).  I can really appreciate that there was no instant love between them, but rather a friendship that evolved into something ‘more’.

Let me stop here and rant for a little bit.  What the *#%& (insert your favorite curse word here) was wrong with Avery’s parents?  I wish (not for the first time) that I can slap a fictional character silly!  For crying out loud, they should be flogged and then thrown into the sea (it seems that I have a big imagination for torture).  I am a mother and if someone were to even attempt something like that with one of my kids, I can assure you that all hell would break loose!  **breathing hard** Glad I got that off my chest!

Cam’s family is what families should be like, with ups and downs, but sticking out for each other and accepting everything; the good and the bad. I was glad that Avery had a chance to meet them and realize that her parents are plain crazy.

The writing is awesome.  Even if the plot is pretty simple, I can appreciate the details and the angst because it had a reason.  I guess you can tell that I really liked Wait for You, I’m a declared Armentrout / Lynn fan for life!

About the cover:  Pretty typical for new adult, I do like the black and white picture and the contrast of the red font.
