Top Ten Tuesday: Trends I Like to Seen More / Less Off

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish

Less
1. Love Triangles – It seems like people always have two or more love interests.  I understand this, but are you really in love with two people at the same time.  I like it better when the characters know their mind and their feelings.
2. Series – I love a good book (period.)  But it gets tiresome that every book I read nowadays seems to be a series AND that I have to wait a YEAR for each sequel.  Also, some series (especially when not planned as such) become tired after a while.  Why is it so hard to find a good stand-alone book?
3. Comparing Every Book to Twilight or The Hunger Games – How many covers have you seen lately that claim exactly that?
4. Bad Romance / Relationships – I am tired of reading about girls in love with a man that had no respect for them or that are so ‘mysterious’ that I can’t even understand how they fell in love in the first place.  It makes the relationship unbelievable (or just plain crazy.)
More (Please)
5. Dystopian – Love dystopian if done right.  More books like ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Divergent’ please.
6. eBooks – I own a Kindle and it is very convenient, for certain things (like travelling and waiting at your doctor’s office.)  What I don’t like are the prices, since I can find discounted books for $4-5 dollars at the bookstore.  Also, not all of the books are available right away (and they can’t be signed by my favorite authors either!)
7. Historical – I read quite a bit of historical romances and I like it when it finds its way to YA, even if it’s not romance J
8. Alternating Point of View – Not all books have to be written in the first person.  I like to know what other characters are doing, thinking and feeling too. A great example is 'Perfect Chemistry'
9. Strong Protagonist – I like a protagonist that knows her/his mind, and doesn’t wait for everyone else to fix everything.  Where is the fun in that?
10. More Humor – I love it when I laugh out loud while reading (even if my hubby looks at me sideways while murmuring something that suspiciously sounds like: “crazy woman”) A great example is ‘Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares.’
That’s it for me.  What is on your Top Ten this week?

  1. Everybody likes a good protagonist, I think. I'd love to see smarter protagonists, rather than stronger. But that's just me....

  2. Alternating POV = good one! Especially in romances I'd love to hear both side of the story.

  4. Dystopian when done right, is excellent and I'd love to see more good, gritty dystopian. But when the authors miss the mark, they really seem to miss it!

  5. Seems like everybody would like less series; I wonder if that will ever happen in YA?

I also voted for more different POVs.
