Top Ten Books That Left Me With My Mouth Hanging Open

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish

I have to start by saying that I am a pretty content reader.  What I mean by that is that I not very often disappointed with a book’s ending, so I am including in my list both the good and the bad, as long as my mouth was “hanging open”.  I have to warn you that I might not get to ten books.
1. Forever by Maggie Stiefvater – The conclusion of the Wolves of Mercy Falls series left me wanting.  For what you ask?  To know for sure what happened next with Sam and Grace.  Was Cole smart enough? Are the wolves safe now? So many questions…
2. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins – I know that the conclusion of the Hunger Games trilogy is going to be in many Top Ten lists this week, but hear me out.  I was not disappointed; this is one of my favorite series ever.  BUT I wish some things hadn’t been as difficult, I wish that Katniss would have gotten the  recognition  she deserved and I wish that certain people didn’t have to die, that’s all I’m saying.
3. The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa - How I love this series!  I think I fell instantly in love with Ash and the Iron Knight was just the icing on the cake.  I cried, laughed, and was mad and surprised.  I loved the ride!
4. That was Then, This is Now by S.E. Hinton – This book was not a good fit for me.  It was going fine until the ending at which point I preceded to throw the book across the room.
5. Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel – I really enjoy this book, but I didn’t care much to the cliffhanger ending, I guess I have to wait for book two…
6. Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton – Another book I enjoyed, as I love mythology (especially Greek), but besides being really weird (in a good way!) I was left with another cliffhanger; I hope they find a certain missing person in the sequel.
7. Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows by J. K. Rowling – I LOVE the Harry Potter series and the movies, of course.  But I think that after so many years of being dedicated fans we deserve to know what happened between the end of book seven and the epilogue.  Don’t you think?
8. Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer - I really liked the Twilight Saga (no, I’m not apologizing either), but this book was so different to the point of weird AND it kind of had an open ending.  What happened next, after all they will live forever (including the bad guys!)

That’s all I could come up with.  How about you?  What is in your Top Ten this week?

  1. I had Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on my list. That made me cry.

As for Mockingjay, I think you summed up how I feel about it pretty well.

Last, I am *dying* to read The Iron Knight. And I still need to read The Iron Daughter and The Iron Queen first. (I just finished The Iron King on Sunday.) Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I think it is gutsy that Julie Kagawa is telling a story from Ash's point of view. (Not that I mind -- Ash is awesome!)

    Have a great day!

  2. I loved the ending of Iron Knight. It was the perfect conclusion to the series. I am one of the few who loved the openness of Forever's ending. I usually prefer closure, but I liked this one. Don't know why.

  3. Forever made my list as well and so did the Hunger Games. I still need to read the Iron Knight. Great choices!

  5. Nice picks. I actually really liked how ambiguous the ending to Forever was, but I know I"m in the minority. And one death in particular from Mockingjay made me really sad.
