Top Ten Books That Made Me Think

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish

1. Willow by Julia Hoban - This was the first book I read that dealt with depression and cutting.  It was an eye opening experience, not an easy book to read, but a really great one nonetheless.

2.  Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - This series is extremely popular and deserves all the hype.  It also has great lessons on faith and friendship.  The almost blind faith that other have in Harry and his owe in Dumbuldore is quite humbling.  Also, Harry didn't have any family to speak off, but he created a close group of friends and he inspire others to greatness.

3.  New Moon by Stephenie Meyer and Breathe by Abbi Glines - Even though these stories are completely different, they have something in common: an abandoned protagonist that falls into a deep depression.  I am not condoning their behavior, but in reality this happens often enough.  It also good to see how they rise above it and learn from that experience.

4.  The Fault on Our Stars by John Green - This book has almost 75,000 ratings in Goodreads and an amazing 4.57 'stars'.  If you haven't read it, please do yourself a favor and do it now :)  Life is unpredictable and full of 'what ifs', but it is also too short to not enjoy every moment and love selflessly and with abandon.

5.  The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa - Once in a lifetime a great love shows in your life and it is up to you to grab it with both hands and don't let go (or at least it was like that for me).  Ash literally travels to the end of the Earth for a chance to be with his queen.  It also has a powerful message about friendship and family.

6.  If I Stay by Gayle Forman and The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson - These two books have to do with grief for a great, crushing loss and the things that help us overcome and accept it.

7.  Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - If you seen this movie, you know how good this book is.  It makes me think about change, about faith, about love and to be open to everything.

8.  Heal Your Headache: The 1-2-3 Program for Taking Charge of Your Headaches by David Buchhloz - In 2009 I found myself with an eternal migraine headache that was slowly draining me (of course this was after hubby got deployed so my stress level was really high!)  My doctor recommended this book and it worked!  This book literally changed my life.

9.  The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins - These books are not only about a teenager fighting for her life in an awful game, but a fight against oppression and inequity.  It is about finding the courage to do what's right, about sacrifice, about war, about peace and love.

That's it for me (if you counted there are more than 10 books in all!)  What is in your Top Ten this week?

  4. I love Harry Potter! I can't think about it without feeling all mushy inside. It made it on my list too. Harry Potter makes you think about so many different things - love, friendship, loss, grief, jealousy. It is amazing.
