Indie Summer Tour: Amy Jarecki

About it the Book

Title: Chihuahua Momma by Amy Jarecki
Published: July 29th, 2013
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age group: Adult

In the frenetic world of canine pageants like Westminster, where dog hair flies and personalities diverge, Rebecca Lee remains in a cocoon of loneliness. Widowed, with two teenaged kids and a business to run, Rebecca would rather mow through five-hundred poodle cuts than think about dating. But when former quarterback Matt Johnson shows up to buy a Chihuahua, his irresistible grin rocks her world—until Matt’s ex decides she wants him back and Rebecca’s daughter decides she’s against her mom dating. Rebecca now has a choice—crawl back into her realm of dogs or fight for the powerful love that fills her soul.

Interview

1.  How did you come up with the idea of  Chihuahua Momma?
Great question! I actually came up with the title before I started writing the book. I show Chihuahuas and wanted to write a romance that incorporated the frenetic world of dog showing. Since my heroine has two teenaged kids and her breed is Chihuahua, I tied it together to get Chihuahua Momma. I also want to clarify, I was raised by a southern belle who taught me the less common spelling “Momma” rather than “Mama”. Both work, but I do like the old fashioned way best!

2.  Why contemporary romance?
Another excellent question that doesn’t have a super short answer. My first manuscripts were suspense novels (presently in shallow graves). My first published novel, Koicto, was historical with romantic and suspense elements. I read widely, so it was difficult for me to fit into a genre, but I realized I needed to be more genre specific for the health of my career…so I started testing the water. Firstly, I chose romance. I enjoy light contemporary romance like Jennifer Cruzie and Janet Evanovitch, and that’s what I tried to emulate with Chihuahua Momma. I also write Scottish Historical romance, because I can’t resist a man in a kilt who can handle a big sword…but those don’t start coming out until the second half of 2014. Bottom line, I’m writing within the framework of HEA and non-fantasy subgenres of romance.

3.  How would Rebecca describe Matt?
Rebecca’s knees turned to mush when she first opened her door to Matt’s shiny blue eyes and friendly grin—being buff and 6’2” didn’t hurt either. But Matt is so much more to her than a stud. Yes, his pectorals stretch a white t-shirt and he’s hard not to gawk at in a pair of Levi’s, but he’s a great guy. He knows how to treat a woman with respect. Sure they have their differences—and whoa baby, different backgrounds—but when you get right down to it, he’s got her number and expertly pushes her buttons.

4.  What’s next for you?
There’s a lot on the horizon:
  • Virtue: Cruise ships, dancers and a Mayan Cult engage in a lethal tango: To be released week of December 1st, 2013
  • Rescued by the Celtic Warrior, September, 2014
  • Celtic Maid, December, 2014
  • Highlanders of Raasay three-book series – Release date TBD
5.  Are there any books that you are anxiously waiting this year?
I love books by Monica McCarty, Tessa Dare, Jen Greyson, Jennifer Cruisie and a plethora of other authors. When I get their e-mails telling me of a pre-release, I always sign up!

6.  What’s your favorite food?
Pizza!

7.  Do you listen to music when you write?
Yes—I’m a bit of a nerd. I listen to Celtic Harp music and J.S. Bach.

8.  Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you, thank you, thank you for interviewing me! I do have one question for readers…What do you think about the way heat levels are trending to super hot? Do you like your romance novels sizzling hot or more sensual?
