I used to re-read my favorite books all the time. Just like
I watch my favorite movies over and over again (Pride & Prejudice anyone?),
I used to be able to pick up a beloved story and loose myself in it. Even if I didn’t have the time to read the
whole book, word for word, I could make time to re-read my favorite parts.
Sadly, this changed with blogging. Not only do I feel the pressure of reading
the latest books, sign up for the latest and more popular blog tours (and thus
review those books), but my time has
become more precious. BUT, recently I did
re-read two old favorites and I really enjoyed the experience. I was between books and had some down time and
I picked up these two books:
Saving Grace by
Julie Garwood – This is, hands down, one of my favorite historical
romances. I love the setting and the
characters and the sweet love story. I probably fell in love with the name Gabriel due to this book and it's now C's middle name :)
Persuasion by
Jane Austen – Next to P&P, Persuasion is one of my favorite Austen
books. I’m just adore the idea of love
that endures so much, distance, indifference, prejudice, persuasion; and still
endures.
I really do miss having more time to read more of my
favorites and I think I will carve out some time to do so in the future.
Do you re-read? Why or why
not? What are your favorite re-reads? If
you could, what books would you re-read?
I actually just reread Persuasion for book club, and I rarely ever reread books because there are so many I still haven't read. I'm pretty sure Jane Austen is the only author I really make time to reread…I just love her books! I'd have to agree, Persuasion is one of the best!
ReplyDeleteYea! I know I couldn't be alone on my Persuasion obsession :) It seems like everyone loves P&P (which I also do!), but that's it.
DeleteI always try to reread my favorite books from time to time.. especially if i was in a reading slump and want a book i KNOW I'll love.. but like you said.. i have been doing this less and less because of the pressure of blogging (which we personally set on ourselves) .
ReplyDeletegreat post!

You're right, we put those expectations on ourselves I do love reading a book that I kin I will love.
DeleteI enjoy rereading my favourite books as well, especially when I'm in a reading rut, those are basically the only ones that keep me reading until I feel like reading new ones.
ReplyDeleteVery rarely do I reread... and this isn't because of blogging. I've always been the type of person that constantly needs something new to be entertained with and I don't like reading books that I've already experienced in a way. There are some books I will read again (Hyperbole and a Half, which I'm reading right now will probably make this list) but in general it's extremely rare.

I don't re-read because of blogging, but I do constantly feel the pressure of knowing that there are SO MANY BOOKS out in the world, and re-reading just prevents me from experiencing new things :) I did used to re-read books in high school though, specifically Perks of Being a Wallflower. I've read that book 3-4 times.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge re-reader. I have a terrible memory so this helps. Also, I love revisiting series that touched me in the years past.
