Top Ten Childhood Faves

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish

If you look at the little blurb “About Me” on the left, you will notice that I am originally from Puerto Rico.  What does that mean?  Well, English is my second language and I started reading books in English (for fun, not the assigned work) when I was in high school.  As a child I don’t remember my mom reading to me, but I do remember her taking me to the bookstore a lot to pick out books.  My siblings and I all read a lot (different types of literature) and my dad likes poetry too.
Anyway these are the books I remember mostly from childhood:
Little Women, Little Men and Jo’s Boys by Louisa May Alcott – I loved these books and I particularly loved Jo.
Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery – I read all the books in the series and enjoyed them all.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett – Another classic that I really loved.
Fairy Tales – I’ve always loved fairy tales, as a child I will go to the movies to see the latest Disney princess and as a grown-up I still loved them all.  Now I like re-tellings of these classic stories.
Mafalda by Quino – Mafalda is a cartoon character created by the Argentinian author Quino (in Spanish of course).  Although it had political undertones, I loved to read these.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne – I’ve read a lot of Jules Verne’s books and this remains my favorite.  It’s amazing what we imagined so many years ago and what has come to pass now.
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – Boy how I cried when I read this book!  It is an amazing read.
I also read a lot of comics, like Archie, Batman, Superman and such.
Sorry, that is all I could come up with.  I’ve read many, many children and MG books as an adult, both for my enjoyment and of course because I have A B and C to read to.
What are your childhood faves?

  5. I snuck an Archie comic into grocery shopping all the time! I'd wait until my mom was distracted and slip it in with the other groceries. Luckily she never got too upset with me :)
