Feature and Follow Friday

Feature and Follow Friday is an awesome blog-hop hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read

This week's features are Alyssa @ Hesperia Loves Books and Britta @ Novel Days and this week we have an activity:

Have you ever looked at book's cover and thought, This is going to horrible? But, was instead pleasantly surprised? Show us the cover and tell us about the book.

I do have moments in which a cover just doesn't look appealing to me, luckily I belong to a great community of bloggers and followed book blogs even before then and I trust them.  So... even if a book cover is not appealing I would still read it based on your reviews and recommendations in blogs and in Goodreads.

Here are some examples:

I'm not crazy about the cover for The Fault in Our Stars, but it turned out to be one of the best books ever!

This cover is funny, right?  The book is great! (I wouldn't have picked this book if it weren't for you though!)

Willow turned out to be a difficult, but wonderful read!

I'm glad the cover for this book was changed later, because I didn't like this one at all.

What books did you judge by their covers?

  1. I really like the cover for Willow, but I *hate* the cover of Darkness Becomes Her. Even the font is awful. I agree, the book community definitely helps when I'm turned off by a cover!

  2. I have to agree with you- the cover for The Fault in Our Stars really doesn't do the book justice! I actually really like the cover of Willow and have it on my TBR list :)

  3. The cover for Dairy Queen is hilarious but definitely on the cheesy side.

  4. Those are some great examples! I haven't picked up The Fault in Our Stars yet, and I admit the cover is part of the reason. But bloggers out there keep raving about it, so I might just have to check it out :)

  6. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I loved Willow! And you're right about TFIOS, not the most interesting cover, but heard it was awesome - haven't read yet, but it has been sitting on my shelf waiting for my time! Have a great weekend!

  7. Funny that you mention Dairy Queen. I actually think that cover is acceptable (not great, but befitting the book and completely non offensive) but there's another Dairy Queen cover I DESPISE. I talked about that on my follow friday actually.

  8. I'm not the biggest fan of Willow cover either. Dairy Queen cover is really funny but too bad, I'm not into books with cow in the cover! :D

  10. I remember when I first was the unveiling of The Fault in Our Stars cover and I was so horrified. I absolutely hated it at the time, especially considering that so many of the fan-made covers were BRILLIANT. It's grown on me now (I like how the writing goes in the background for the blurb and such) but it's still just pretty meh.

I've always found the Willow cover pretty boring but I'm so glad I didn't judge the book solely based on its cover.

I actually don't mind Dairy Queen or Darkness Becomes Her but I'm glad you enjoyed the books! :)
