Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Tackle Tough Issues

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish

1. Willow by Julia Hoban - Tackles the issue of cutting (self mutilation.)

2.  Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen - Tackles the issue of drug abuse and the repercussions it has on the family.

3.  If I Stay by Gayle Forman - Tackles the issue of grief and what love can do to over come it.

4.  Just Listen by Sarah Dessen - Tackles the issue of rape and the shame, fear, confusion it leaves behind.  It also deals with anorexia. (I could quite possible complete the list just ussing Ms. Dessen's novels.)

5.  Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott - Tackles the issues of grief, guilt, neglect and self-destruction.

6.  A Blue So Dark by Holly Schindler -  Tackles the issue of mental disease and fear of the disease, and of neglect.

7.  The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson - Even though this is not a contemporary novel, it tackles the issue of medical ethics and the abuse on medication and the sometimes scary advances in modern science.

8.  Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann - Tackles the issue of obsessive compulsive disorder.

Sorry guys that's all I could come up with.  What's on your list this week?

  1. Willow has been one a few lists. I need to read it.

  2. Loved your Sarah Dessen choices, those two are my favourite books by her. I haven't read A Blue so Dark or Cryer's Cross so I'll check them out soon.

    Here's my list: http://bit.ly/qJiozA

  3. You've peaked my interest with many of these books. Thanks for your list!!!

  4. Great list of books. I love that you included Cryer's Cross. I think people forget about OCD at times. Plus it always helps when the novel has a hunky hero to save the day.

  5. New Follower
Great list, most books I have not heard of which is great. A Blue So Dark sounds so interesting.
