Waiting on Wednesday: Velvet by Mary Hooper

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
in which we have the opportunity to let others know about books that we are eagerly waiting for.

Title: Velvet by Mary Hooper
Published by: Bloomsbury
Release date: August 2nd, 2012

Velvet is a laundress in a Victorian steam laundry. With both her mother and father dead, she is an orphan and has to rely upon her own wits to make a living. The laundry's work is back-breaking and Velvet is desperate to create a better life for herself. Then Velvet is noticed by Madame Savoya, a famed medium, who asks Velvet to come to work for her. Velvet is dazzled at first by the young yet beautifully dressed and bejewelled Madame. But soon Velvet realises that Madame Savoya is not all that she says she is, and Velvet's very life is in danger ...A romantic and thrillingly exciting new novel from an acclaimed and much loved historical writer for teens.

Why I want to read it:  I haven't read any books by Mary Hooper, but I do love historical books and this one seems to have dark twist as well.  I wonder what the "romantic" part is about... Oh, and I like the cover too :)

  6. I'm a little iffy about historical books. Some I enjoy and some are too boring for me to go on. I think I'm going to wait on some reviews before I decide about reading this one. But I hope you enjoy it once you get the chance to read it!
